Stoneware Garden Sculptures

Sara Mills

I like to use the 'Raku' firing technique for the surprising effects that can result from the flames and the smoking process.   I find that it is particularly suited to my way of hand-modelling or shaping the clay.

My themes touch on the topics of equilibrium in our everyday lives. The day-to-day  juxtapositions that we live create a metaphorical universe in my works.

Originally from Great Britain, I have been practicing ceramics since the 1980s. I apprenticed with potters in both England and Canada. I studied fine arts and art in education at Concordia University in Montreal.

As a professional I teach in schools as part of the program: Culture in the schools. I also give workshops at my studio.   I have participated in solo and group shows in Europe, USA and Canada.
